Charging Islands, What it Means
"Charging islands” is what we do: replacing diesel on islands with dependable, dispatchable, renewable energy from solar PV & batteries. Charged Islands is an innovative startup established by a group of dedicated energy transition specialists, each boasting a solid history of successfully developing and implementing renewable energy initiatives.
We develop and deliver projects
Our own concept, Baseload Renewable Energy Systems (BRES), Delivers Energy Independence for Islands —24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The combination of solar energy and battery energy storage delivers (far) cheaper energy than diesel generators.
We don’t just offer advice; we deliver results
The origins of Charged Islands
Charged Islands started from a simple observation: for many islands, diesel-based electricity is expensive, fragile, and exposed to fuel logistics. Over the past years we analysed island systems and tracked the cost curve of PV and storage. As technology costs fell, the tipping point became clear: 24/7 renewable supply is now feasible when systems are designed around reliability and rare low-solar events. Charged Islands was created to translate that insight into bankable masterplans and projects.

Current Projects
At Charged Islands, we are committed to pioneering energy solutions that empower island communities. Here are some of our active projects that exemplify our dedication to energy independence.
Bonaire International Airport - Bonaire
Charged Islands is developing a solar + battery setup for BIA to lower its electricity bill, electrify ground operations, and prepare for future e-flight. This project is a textbook example of what we want for islands at large.
Providencia - Columbia
Pre-feasibility assessment to evaluate the potential for a Baseload Renewable Energy facility on the island of Providencia.
Tender & Development
We are currently engaged in a tender, bound by an NDA, for the development of a solar + battery power plant on a Caribbean island, a true Baseload Renewable Energy System (BRES). More details will follow in the near future.
